9 Tips on how to start a conversation with a girl without sounding like a creep
Whether you meet a girl online or in person you need to know the right conversation starters to use so that you make a good impression instead of coming across as creepy. You need to make her see you as an interesting person who wants to make a real connection with her because she’s used to guys just seeing her as a sex object. This approach makes you stand out and she’s going to want to make an effort at getting to know you.
1) Don’t ask personal questions
When you meet a girl online you shouldn’t ask her personal questions right away because it makes you sound creepy. There’s probably lots of information about her in her profile so she’s going to think you didn’t bother reading it and just messaged her because you thought her pictures were sexy. She may also think that you’re being too forward by asking personal questions so quickly and that’s going to make her ignore you. Conversation starters when you meet a girl online should be about breaking the ice so say “Hi.”, introduce yourself and ask her a question about something she mentions in her profile.
2) Give her plenty of space
The quickest way to be creepy when you’re talking to someone is by standing too close to them and making them feel smothered. This is intimidating and she’s going to want to get away from you, not talk to you. If you met the girl online she’s already on edge because she’s wondering if you’re a good guy or a weirdo who’s tricked her so you need to put her at ease. Keep an arm’s length of distance between the two of you and let her be the one who moves closer when she’s ready to.
3) Avoid physical contact
Another way to be creepy is by making physical contact before getting to know each other. Conversation starters should be purely verbal and you shouldn’t casually put your hand on her arm or hold her hand as a way of making a connection. If you met the girl online and have been talking for awhile before meeting in person you might think there’s enough closeness between you to do that but you should let her make the first move.
4) Smile and make eye contact
If you meet a girl online and get a chance to see her in person you should show her how happy you are to finally meet and can’t wait to talk to her. When you see her you should make eye contact and smile, this makes a good first impression and makes her look forward to spending time with you. Once she makes eye contact with you, you can introduce yourself, tell her how happy you are to meet her and ask her how she’s doing. You should keep this positive body language going throughout the conversation to show that you’re engaged in what’s going on.
5) Have conversation starters ready
Since you already have an idea of what to say you won’t be doing things like stumbling over your words or having to deal with awkward silences. Make a mental list of generic topics to discuss like: your plans for the weekend, movies or TV shows that are popular, your pets or something interesting that you saw on the news. Make sure that these topics are generic enough that she won’t have a difficult time keeping up her end of the conversation.
6) Don’t make it sexual
When you meet a girl online you know both of you are looking for some fun but you should wait before taking it to a sexual level. Conversation starters that are about sex are going to seem creepy because she wants to get to know you first before talking about something so intimate with you and when guys meet a girl online they’re usually focused only on sex and not her. You should use conversation starters that hint at attraction, such as telling her how pretty she is in her picture or saying that you were drawn to her by her interesting profile.
7) Talk about yourself
Talking a little bit about yourself when you first meet a girl online can be a good thing as long as you don’t do it excessively or brag about yourself. You want to take the pressure off of her trying to come up with conversations starters while giving her a chance to get to know you. You can talk about what you did earlier in the day, what hobbies you engage in, what part of town your from or anything that you think she’d like to know about you. Knowing who you are is going to make her feel more comfortable around you and she can keep the conversation going by expanding on things you’ve mentioned.
8) Ask her a leading question
Conversation starters aren’t good if they’re short and simple sentences that break the ice but don’t lead anywhere. You need to have conversation starters that are interesting and end in a leading question so she has something to reply to. Don’t ask her questions that require a “yes.” or “No.” answer, instead you should ask her a question that will make her think for a second and give a reply that leads to a longer conversation. Asking if she’s been to this restaurant before isn’t a good leading question but asking where her favourite restaurant is or what her favourite kind of cuisine is a good.
9) Find something in common
It’s going to be easier talking to a girl online if you have something in common with her because it’s something both of you are familiar with so you won’t have to try to come up with any ideas. Before you message her you can read her profile and pick out one or two things that you have in common. When you talk to her mention what you have in common but don’t just list all of your commonalities and have that be the main reason she should talk to you because that’s going to be creepy. You should take a casual approach and give your opinion on your commonality then give her a chance to reply.
